Special Effects After Care

Take Care of Your Face !

Hello Fxers and welcome back to Ready Set Fx! A horrible terrible thing happened 2 weeks ago  when I was knocking out special effects looks for this blog. I  noticed the day after I had dry patches all over my face from not taking care of it properly. I have acne prone skin but I had never experienced dry patches this was a first. But here is the thing I started to do obsessive research of  how take care of your face after applying special effect makeup but there isn't a lot of information  out there. The burnt of the information I had found focused around how to remove certain special effect makeup that cant be taken off with soap and water. But nothing about how to prevent your skin from getting damaged. So I came up with my own maybe everyone just assumes  that it is self explanatory but I honestly had no idea. So maybe this will help another unfortunate soul like me. So I'm going to give you some do's and don'ts of special effects makeup let's get started!

Do's

Do make sure you have a clean face. Never apply makeup to an unwashed face

Do moisturize you face before and after you  apply the makeup. Ever since my mishap I personally use equate's Fragrance free advanced moisture recovery lotion.  Its only 97 cents for a 10 oz. bottle and it works wonders.

If you happen to be a person that has very sensitive skin. I would recommend to do a patch test on any products you plan on using just to make sure it could  prevent a bad allergic reaction or irritation of some sort

Always make sure to wash your even if you used a face wash to remove all of the makeup its still a very good idea to wash your after everything is removed this will get any of the access dirt out that you missed.

Facemasks are your best friend if you have done an extensive special effect makeup look this will help put the moisture back in your skin. You can do this after any sort of special effects makeup it will just have a better propose if your look is more extensive .

Take a few days break if you can between doing looks to give your face a rest.

Don'ts

Don't ever fall asleep in special effect makeup with out taking it off first.

Don't ever rub excessively in the same spot get off makeup this can cause ore harm then good

Don't forget to apply lotion after this could avoid those annoying dry spots

Apparently it is very bad for you to pull latex off of your face so yeah don't do this.See video below of me ripping latex of my face I probably still will . But you shouldn't it could cause damage. Im just  a rebel though

Panda Panda

Step 1 Cover your whole face with the white face paint or cream eyeshadow what ever you prefer.

Step 2 Take your orange press pigment and start to mix little bits of your light brown eyeshadow into it util you get an orangey brown color.

Step 3 Start to contour your face along the sides of your checks , and upper forehead.

Step 4  Fill in your whole eye-socket areas in with your black face paint or cream eyeshadow

Tip* if you set your face paints or cream eyeshadows with pigments or powder eyeshadows of the same colors  this will set and lock in the colors for longer wear.

Cheetah Tutorial !

Animal Week

Hello Fxers my last couple post have been gore and nothing more. And what kind of blog would this be if that was all i did. Im am very excited to anoccunce that this week is animal week here on Ready Set FX ! i may not be that good at createing these looks but its all about trail and error right? So here we go!

How to  look like a Cheetah

Step 1 Take a white face paint and put in all over  your face.

Step 2 Get out a light brown, dark brown, and light orange eyeshadow. we are gunna use this to contour the face.

Step 3 Begin to  contour your face this is all by prefence. The common colors found in cheetahs are browns and oranges. So you are going to dusts these colors in the common places you woud normal contour. Unitl you are satified with the over all look and it blends in nicley with the white in your face. with out overpowering it.

Quick hint * Dont  go to heavy on the contouring we are going to be drawing on cheetah spots later !

Step 4  Take out an black eyeliner pencil and fill in your nose. Make a line going form the brige of your nose and connect it to your upper lip. Make black dots on both sides of the line to give the appearance of whiskers! Lastly take your black eyeliner and fill in your lips.

Step 5 Fill in one of your eyes completely with black cream paint or eyeshadow and do you other eye normal with eyeliner and mascara

Step 6 Fill in your eyebrows with black eyeshadow

Time for spots!

Step 1  Take a light to meduim brown eyeshadow out. Using a Q-tip you are going to dip it in the eye shaow and begin making small cricles on your face

Step 2   Take a black eyeliner pencil and begin making C shapes as you out line the circle you have made with your eyeshadow.

Check out this reference video i used if you want a step by step of how to make spots !

Super easy special effect bruises !

How to Make Special Effect Bruises

Hey Fxers as you can see in the photo off to the side I kind of got into a fight.  I didn't exactly  win. I'm just kidding today I'm going to show you how to make special effect bruises!
it is literally the most simple beginning special effect look you can achieve. You can do this in a variety of different ways . 9 out of 10 times I use eye shadow to create bruising for my looks, But today in the photo your see to your left I used something called an injury stack.

I'm going to explain how you could achieve the same look with both. First ill talk about how to do this look with the injury stack. An injury stack is a stack of  5 different colored cream based paints used  to create a variety of different "Injury's" you would see in the special effects world. The stack  includes two different types of reds, a deep purple, a black , and a tan color. Basically you start with a base color I used the darker red. I blended that out into my skin, and then stuck the deep purple color on top of it. And repeated the process. I then started to blend in tiny amounts of the other colors. Meaning the black , tan , and lighter red. Blending in these 3 colors small amounts at a time gives the bruise you are creating it's texture. you can add in as much as you want to you get the desired affect!

To create this look using eye shadow its the same process. You need a  red, blue , green, purple, and black  color. You start with a base. Again I use red but you don't have to. Once again you blend out your base color and then add your second color on top of your base and blend it out also. You then take your remaining colors and blend them in small amounts into your two main colors until you get your desired effect ! I have a very awkward video below of myself explaining  how to make these buries . So if you want to suffer through that you are welcome to. If not until next time Fxers What Disney princess comes back to haunt  you ? ...........Pocahontas

Three things you must have in your Special effects makeup kit !

Hey Fxers and welcome back to Ready Set FX today  I'm  going to be talking to you about my must haves for being able to create any sort of special effects looks . And don't worry its not a lot you can create just about anything with a bottle of latex and some eye shadow. So lets get started!

First off the number one thing that you will need to make any sort of special effect look will be liquid latex. As long as you have a bottle of that you can conquer the special effect makeup world. And don't worry you don't have to go all out a tiny 1oz bottle from the Halloween has let me do countless looks over the last year and I still have some left a little goes a long way.  But in case you were wondering there is a professional special effects latex called Ben Nye. I just ordered some liquid latex from them and used to create a special effects look yesterday. If you don't mind paying an extra 5 bucks this stuff is legit. Its basically  like having a new layer of skin.

Secondly some sort of eye shadow platelet it could be any brand personally I've been using my Smashbox on the rocks platelet for the last year to create all my looks but as long as you have a platelet that contains a dark  red, black ,blue, green, and purple you'll be fine. you can use this to create anything form cuts to bruises to burns which I will be showing you how to do next week so stay tuned!

Thirdly you will need some fake blood you could make your own using corn starch , chocolate syrup, and red food coloring. This will get the job done but it will be very runny. I would recommend getting the fake stuff from Walmart or a Halloween store during the fall season its only about 4 bucks and looks pretty realistic. But if your looking for something you can put in your mouth Ben Nye sells a mint flavor version. I would not suggest swallowing  but its non toxic just in case.

Its not a lot and there are so many more amazing products you can add to your collection. But if your just beginning and your looking for a cheap way to start off your collection or get your feet wet this is all your need to create some simple yet killer looks. Until next time Fxers What do you call three witches living together ?.....................................  Broommates

The Silenced

Hello and welcome to Ready Set FX! Happy 1st day of Halloween if you love Halloween as much as I do we all know that October basically qualifies as it being Halloween everyday.  That photo you see above is from a little photo shoot I did a couple months ago called  We are silenced it was inspired by a video I saw when I was venturing through  YouTube. So here is a run down of my look and how I managed to not pin my friends actual skin together.

So I followed Bonnie's tutorial but in my opinion our looks aren't quite the same. And I'm glad  about that I'm going to break this look into 5 simple steps

1.Outline your new mouth  take a red tube of lipstick and extend your mouth out by drawing a straight line from the corner of both side of your lips make sure its at least an inch thick. When you start to look like the Joker you've done it right

2.Fill the outline of your new mouth in with latex at least an inch above your "New Mouth"  If you don't know how to apply latex. To sum it up quickly you put a thin layer of latex over your new mouth then you put  1ply tissues over that latex. Apply more latex to seal it and then let it dry and repeat the process . At least 4 to 5 times

3. Cut your new mouth open with a pair of  scissors make sure to go slowly so you don't rip the latex, or cut your actual skin

4. Insert the safety pins into your fake skin  CAREFULLY!!!

5. Gore it up with blood and bruises basically anything that will take your look to that extra level of nastiness. The more gore the better!

I posted Bonnies Channel and the video I used to make this look below if you want to check out her channel or get a more in depth explanation of how to do this look. Until tomorrow FXers I will leave with this corny Halloween joke  What's A Vampire's least favorite song ?
